Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
Technique:
Sports massage uses different massage techniques:
- Effleurage is a light stroking that can be performed with the palms or the thumbs.
- Petrissage is a form of two-handed kneading in which both hands pick up the muscle and compress it.
- Cupping involves percussing or striking the muscles with cupped hands.

- Increases blood flow to and circulation which stimulates and warms the muscles.
